Calling Apple on it

Why is it when Apple does something sleazy, no one calls them on it? If Microsoft did something like this there would be no end to the belly aching.

This is why I don’t care to ever install iTunes. It always installs some crap I don’t want (like QuickTime with it’s super crappy little tray icon and file helper resetting behavior). Not to mention all the extra processes that iTunes has running for no good reason (why do I need an iPodService running 24/7)?

Probably you do or don't realize that iTunes definitely needs Quicktime but it doesn't matter anyway. The amount of trolling that you expose here is more than ridiculous, Omar. Many Mac heads haven't forgotten that you have contributed to some good Mac products in the past but you seem to have forgotten who your employer is. You do realize that the Windows system tray is _always_ full of crap anyway, don't you? And you probably also know that even Microsoft contributes to all the crap that can be found down there in the right with it's super-crappy Passport-registration-reminder-get-on-my-nerves-Windows-Messenger-Hotmail-bullshit.

Oh yes, I know, Microsoft suddenly thinks Google is a competitor and all that and all of a sudden you need to have freemail and a search engine, too, and all that. Who cares about that? Another "me, too" from a company who has spent the past 30 years with copying and imitating, starting with the acquisition of a little CP/M clone and many other things that followed QDOS's trails. But this is a clear case of the pot calling the kettle black, and you know it, Omar.

The difference here is that this is just stupid and silly. It shows a lack of respect for my computer. I'd be interested in specifically hearing what bad software Microsoft installs on your PC that behaves in this manner.

I do know that iTunes needs QuickTime, but that doesn't mean that every time you install iTunes it must totally forget and ignore all the stuff you told it last time. It's just lazy.

"I'd be interested in specifically hearing what bad software Microsoft installs on your PC that behaves in this manner."

That reminds me especially of two things:

1. NO, WINDOWS XP, I DO NOT WANT A BLOODY PASSPORT ACCOUNT AND I DO NOT WANT TO REGISTER FOR A PASSPORT ACCOUNT! Got it? NO, NOT AT ALL! I also don't want that crap in the system tray and I want it to go away AND NEVER ASK ME AGAIN THE FIRST TIME AROUND...

2. I want to control where my system connects to and when it does it, and that _includes_ Microsoft, and I also want to know what data those product send to Microsoft when they force me to activate the product. I don't want to be reminded of important system updates and when to install them. Just check for them when I want it, and when I want it, I'll click on it!

3. Why does Office:mac try to install Windows Media Player??? Not even _that_ Windows Media player, not a product similar to the Windows version that some people even find somewhat useful, it's _that_ Mac version of the Windows Media Player, that really bad piece of software that does _nothing_ useful and has the worst video quality I've ever seen.

Apart from that, this is OFFICE I'm talking about, so there is NO reason to install Windows Media Player on the Mac, _none_ at all!
