One of the most annoying things ever

As a geek, I install, update and did I say update a lot of software.

I can't stand when I'm installing something and I get this dialog:

image

First of all, this dialog is not friendly. Second of all, Processor ID? Exweese me? What do I do with that information? Third of all, why isn't there a big FAT EASY BUTTON.

Can like the installer use Shadow Copy or something to replace the files it needs to replace and have it all just work the next time I launch Outlook?

Installers that are horrible about this are anything that relies on Outlook or IE for integration.

What's weird is that some installers on Vista ask you if you want to automatically quit the running applications and continue.

Worse still are the same installers that end up showing "Windows Explorer" in the list of applications that needs to be closed.

Most users have no clue about the implications of acting on this dialog, one way or the other. It's a perfect example of a case where developers thought that everyone would like to have the types of options they, themselves, would like to have available during the installation of an program.

Because Windows is still designed with the assumption that upon encountering any sort of issue you will:

1) Call your help desk

2) Call Microsoft Support

The idea that you can design things without this assumption seems, sadly, foreign to the Windows team.
