Copernic Desktop Search

Thanks to Craig’s pointer I’m now digging Copernic Desktop Search. It’s got a very clean interface, doesn’t take up much memory, and respects my PC. I find that it’s faster at picking up index changes than LookOut. If you are wondering why I’m bothering at all, see my post on why I stopped using Windows Desktop Search.

How is the drag and drop functionality in Copernic? One thing I like with Windows Desktop Search (WDS) vs. LookOut is that i can drag emails in search results from WDS into other emails. WIth lookOut, i had to search for the emails, find which folder they were in and navigate to the folder.

Same thing, you can drag and drop emails into new email windows.

If you need a very fast desktop file search [excluding Outlook items], you might want to try Locate32. Very fast, lightweight and free.

I looked at Copernic, Goggle Desktop, and X1, I settled for X1. It is unobtrusive as it maintains an index to all eMails and files on both my local disk and the network. The program has saved me a great deal of time as I dig out the odd fact, social security number, or eMail address from three or four years of back eMails and files.

If you want to do a free trial go to www.x1.com/download/
