Geotagging Tutorial

Reeves has an awesome tutorial on how to Geotag your photos. I just did this for my trip to Egypt and Paris and it’s unbelievably cool.

The hardest part was dealing with lots of indoor/outdoor photos and aligning those to the timeline. You also need to change your PC Timezone to whichever timezone you took the pictures when stamping them.

If you are looking for a good inexpensive GPS device to use with your camera to geotag, I highly recommend the Garmin Foretrex 101. Make sure you also order the serial cable.

I'm sorry, did you just say SERIAL CABLE???

So many aspects of geotagging are like 1998 it's amazing. But yes, I just use a usb-serial cable and deal with the crappy mess of 90s technology to enable this coolness.

Hi, i have a question about the Foretrex 101.
I purchased my Foretrex last autumn, and have had problems with the PC-Connection twice now.

The communication when using the "Garmin" format simply stops working. I can still communcate with the unit using the Hyperterminal application and setting the interface to "NMEA"-format.

I experienced this problem about a year ago, and after a lot of communication with the european support department, they gave me a new replacement unit. That unit has worked perfectly up till now, when the same problem occured again.

Have you had any similar experience, and do you have any idea what could be causing the problem ?
