Giving Comcast the boot?

Like Jeff, I am seriously thinking of giving Comcast the boot. I need to add up all the season passes I would need to get and see what the damage will be.

Of course, I canceled HBO a long time ago and watch all their stuff a few years later on DVD from Netflix. I just pretend it's not on (like Rome). Now if Apple could score HBO we'd be in business.

Oh, and I already have an Antenna so I get CBS, NBC, Fox and ABC in Hi-Def over the air (which my Media Center records just fine). I may need to invest in a better Antenna though as the one I have in my garage can be flaky at times.

This of course will save me a bunch of money as I won't need to get a Vista Media Center with Cable Card cause I won't have Cable :-).

The only hole in this system is that I do on occasion like to watch the news (not the craptastic local news though).

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. For the news, I've been watching internet streams for a while now and it works fine as the picture quality is not essential.
Comcast is really going to suffer from the competition in the next few years. Their prices are outrageous. Just think that in Europe, you can get much higher speed Internet access, tv and phone in one nice package for only 30 Euros...

Ok, so here is what I did and I will never look back. We had Comcast for a year plus, then tried dish. I never liked the Dish DVR as I was used to using Media Center 2005 when we had Comcast. Then I got RC1 with Vista and built myself a little Home Theater PC. I then found out that with Vista you did not need an NTSC card in order to use the HDTV card, AND you could have multiple HDTV cards. So I got two HDTV cards and pluged them in. We got a large outdoor antenna in the attic to pick up HD and we LOVE IT!! Vista Media Center is AWSOME and my wife and I love it! The computer has a 400GB HD for media and we love the fact we get SO MUCH with media center and NO monthly costs.

I thought I would miss cable, but I just get the DVD's once the season is over and I am set. Plus, almost all the shows people watch are on the major networks. 24 in HD is just awsome!

My advice, DROP Comcast but keep them for a cable modem and then go with Vonage. You will save $$$ per month.

Absolutely. Welcome to the club. I booted Comcast two years ago and never looked back. Actually, I don't even have the Antenna. News are available on the Internet. And yes, I watch shows two years later, but so what?

You'll still get PBS; the News Hour is a great source for news.
