IE 7 tabs and Windows Update?

Last night my Vista PC downloaded some updates from Windows Update requiring a reboot. I had IE open with a bunch of tabs I wanted to read.

This morning I logged on to the machine, and when I launched IE it restored all the tabs from last night.

Is this a Vista only feature? I never noticed it before.

Anyway, it's a welcome feature. I was pleasantly surprised.

It's available in IE7 on all platforms. When you close an IE window with multiple open tabs you get a small dialog where you can check off to save the current session for next time. I use something similar for Firefox which does it automagically every time I close a browser which to me is even more useful.

Although the default in the IE close dialog (when there are multiple tabs) isn't to save the tabs.

Although it may be the case that when IE sees a Windows end session message it decides to default to saving the state of the tabs.

And/or it's making use of the Restart Manager which is new to Vista.

Even better - Outlook 2007 will restore all of its open windows (mail messages etc), as it supports Restart Manager.

Hi Omar,

This behaviour is consistent with IE7 even on Windows XP SP2. Last year, I was demoing IE7 to some customers in a Microsoft event in Ottawa and one Microsoft employee was shocked to see this cool feature of IE7. He too was not aware of this feature :o).
