It's been a bad month for Vista

My laptop is blue screening a few times a week now, and I have no idea why. I have been installing driver updates as they come to me from Lenovo and Microsoft, but this is just getting horrible.

Most recent issues are:

  1. Laptop takes 5 minutes to go to standby
  2. Laptop screen never turns on after standby
  3. Laptop blue screens when waking from standby and docked
  4. Laptop won't undock
  5. Explorer is crashing left and right (due to Search Protocol Host crashing)

Not sure what to do except reinstall Vista, which I don't really have time for.

I feel for you!

I just installed Vista and found out that our near new colour laserjet 1500 is now a doorstop :(

I've a Lenovo laptop too and I've installed the same driver updates without problems... really strange.

I'm having the same problems on my T60p. Everything was wonderful in Vista land until I updated Lenovo drivers on Monday night. My laptop has blue screened every day since, and I'm seeing the same errors as you.

I also have a T60p and I have not yet installed the latest drivers. I did install the latest BIOS two days ago. I had never seen a BSOD on Vista but I have seen two the past week. Both times it seemed related to attached my Apricorn external hdd. I ended up ordering another hdd from Newegg to install XP. Fortunately, all my work is done in VM's which I have stored on an hdd in the CD bay.

One other thing which is weird is I have been getting errors in the Application Event Log dealing with MS Live Messenger. The error occurs when I shut Messenger down. My reliability sucks because I get this error every dang day (or at least every other day).

Not sure if this is the issue but if I shut down messenger by right-clicking on the tray icon, it stays there (with an X through it) until I move my mouse over it. Typically I move my mouse over it right away. I'm going to check again tomorrow to see if I get the error if I don't move my mouse over it.

Two things I really hoped Vista would fix were a) system gets progressively worse until a reinstall is required and b) applications stop responding either for a short time or permanently. I'm beginning to find my Vista installations on desktop and laptop are getting less and less reliable - more reboots needed, CPU at 100% with svchost, refusals to wake up from sleep etc. And Internet Explorer particularly is always hanging. Sometimes the whole window locks up and won't even drag. Sometime a page just becomes unscrollable. I echo your comment - it's HORRIBLE.

Honestly, I'm not a Vista or MSFT basher.

I bought a new HP Desktop with Vista a few months ago. The first problem I found is when I right click in Explorer and choose New/Folder, the New Folder does not appear. I have to click out of the folder and then back into to see and rename the folder.

I also have un explained slow downs that can only be resolved with a reboot. Also, copying picture files from an SD card to the hard drive takes about 10 minutes. Copying files in general is soooo slow.

I have 4 other XP computers in my house. This new HP as the most powerful hardware, but is the slowest to use. Even my wife commented on how slow the PC is.
