MSN Mobile Messaging for Cingular

If you are a user of Cingular (or AT&T Wireless). MSN Mobile Messaging, which I wrote about in the past, is a really cool feature where you can have a two way conversation between yourself and a mobile phone user.

As we speak, I am sending an IM to my wife who is in a hospital where she is not signed into messenger. Rather than use my phone to SMS her I can just do so from the comfort of my computer, and when she replies it just pops back into the conversation window. If I'm not signed into messenger when she replies, it gets routed to Hotmail, and then the next time messenger signs in, all the "offline" messages that are queued for me get delivered to messenger again.

Will we be able to do this for MSN Messenger in general? I don't like the idea of using SMS for messages because they don't have a finite cost, but I use Agile Messenger for Windows Mobile and it works great but when the connection is dropped or the person I am talking to gets dropped, I'd like for the lost messages to be queued so I don't have to dig through my history to re-send messages. Assuming I'm around when the person comes back.

ICQ had this done right from the start. It's a shame ICQ sucked in every other way.

Is this supposed to work for Cingular Customers that used to be on AT&T Wireless also? Because right now it's not working for me.

Hi,
As one of the people behind this feature, it will work for Cingular people Real Soon Now.

I know this may seem presumptuious and rude, but I must ask a question here, as Cingular is no help.

I just bought a RAZR, and have the 200/month SMS plan from Cingular, and I can receive messages from MSN but I can't reply. It tells me that it sends, it just never shows up at the other end. Any idea why?

Tosha, Tyler- Have you ever signed up with mobile.msn.com in the past to receive IMs on your mobile? If so, then there is a bug in MSN Messenger today where, if you've got (formerly) AT&T service, replies won't work. The only workaround is to have you friends add your phone number to the contact they have for you.

Don't worry-we'll be fixing this bug by the end of Nov., so replies will ALWAYS work.
