Mike gives Napster the boot

Mike ditched Napster To Go for the same reasons I did. However, I ditched them a few months ago when they were still in beta and I was beta testing the Creative Portable Media Center. I found lots of problems with Napster's implementation and as such figured they would probably not fix them any time soon. Looks like their 1.0 of Napster To Go doesn't fix them.

Lets hope that MSN Music offers the subscription all you can eat service with a software user experience that does not suck.

Unlikely.

a) the Windows Media people are notoriously unresponsive to complaints. They never appear. They have no blog. They are not customer-connected. Ergo, they suck.

b) Windows Media DRM has worked badly or not at all for me more times than it's worked correctly. Others seem to have the same issues - the newsgroups are littered with burned-by-DRM carcasses.

c) All other DRM providers seem similarly unresponsive because it's a "security technology" and you can't talk about "security" on a blog. Especially when "security" or "rights" is in the title of what your talking about.

Hey Vlad, have you considered that for every one "burned by DRM story" that you DO read about, there are thousands upon thousands of "not burned by DRM so it's not worth talking about" stories?

We, as human beings, tend to talk loudest when we're pissed off.

Hey Omar, have you considered that perhaps Napster could use your feedback as a beta tester to help fix the problems you encountered? It WAS a beta, after all.
