Outlook Folder List Weirdness

Sometimes software just baffles me. A few days ago, my Outlook 2003 decided to quit remembering the collapsed state of my mail folders in the folder list. Just like that. Sometime last week. Basically, no matter how I change the folder expand/collapse state, whenever I quit and launch Outlook they are exactly where they were when I launched the previous time.

Now, this problem does not happen on 2 of my computers, just my laptop. I spent some time pulling my hair out and did what any good geek does when they can't fix something. I pave'd my machine using Remote Installation Services at work, installed a fresh copy of Tablet SP2, and then installed Office. Guess what? Problem still happens. I can't believe it. This problem really has me stumped. Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do about it?

I had a similar thing happen to me. In fact, the same thing may have also happened. What I noticed was that my button states on the large Outlook bar were being lost. For example, I turn off Notes and Shortcuts and move Journal up and it gets reset to default.

When I moved to a new PC, I noticed the problem followed. But I think this is because I used the Save my Settings Wizard in Office. Could also have something to do with the Exchange server I suppose.

At any rate, you should try Help -> Detect and Repair and have it reset your settings to default. See if this fixes, then re-import your settings into the Wizard and see if the problem comes back.

Omar: This happens sporadically to my NewsGator folder. For no apparent reason, all of my feed folders are collapsed. It's really irritating and I have not been able to figure out why this happens. Eventually, after a number of trips to the View menu to Expand All over a couple of sessions, it resets itself.

I haven't tried Josh's suggestion of using Detect & Repair - that seems awfully heavy-handed to fix what should be a simple state change.

Ah, the joys of software, eh?

The behaviour you want rid off is what we need - but can't get it!

Similar problem. RSS Feeds folder in outlook just disappeared. When I try to recreate the folder, the program advises that the folder already exists. I cannot run the following fix --RUN outlook.exe/resetfolders etc. Tech support from the exchange server says its not them. In fact other computers still display the folders. I have removed outlook entirely and relaoaded it. Same issue. I am baffled.
