Priceless

73 degrees on Feb 17th... the east coast is freezing right now. Why would you live anywhere else :-)?

Because in Miami, I can watch the sun rise and set in the ocean from the same spot, and compared to the gulf stream, CA is surrounded by the arctic ocean.

I know what you mean. This is my first winter on the west coast. I spent the day on the beach in Santa Cruz. I returned home to find an email from my mom, there's a 20-foot icicle hanging from the roof of their home in Iowa. I try to sympathize -- but instead I wonder why we don't all live out here!

I just got back from another week in California. (I was in San Jose this week.) The weather was quite nice. But, to answer the question as to why everyone doesn't live out there look no further than the cost of living.

To replace my large southern (Georgia) home in Silicon Valley and maintain my standard of living, I'd have to nearly triple my salary. This wouldn't take in to account the tax increases, increases in fuel expenses, etc.

I love it out there, but under my current plan someone else pays for me to visit every few weeks. I like that better.

Snowboarding is less than an hour away. Great hiking/camping even closer. Want to spend some time on the water...15 minutes pretty much any direction. Now why would anyone NOT want to live in Seattle? ;-)

Ummm. Because of AMT? (http://www.shahine.com/omar/Taxes2007AMTTaxCreditsAndWhatAMess.aspx)

Tim B - I mean Seattle, WASHINGTON...not California (where Omar lives). There is no state tax in WA hence AMT isn't really an issue here, which Omar specifically calls out in that post you reference. :)

Todd - My response was to original posting, not yours. A tongue-in-cheek dig at Omar. To you: Number of sunny days per year? :)

I could list a bunch of reasons why not to live in California. But actions speak louder than words, and I'm never going back!

Tim B - Oops, my bad. :)
