RIP MSN Music

Starting November 14th, MSN Music will stop selling music. The best way to buy music these days is Amazon.com 1-click with Amazon.com Prime for free 2 day shipping. I refuse to spend more than $20 a year for downloaded music. The whole authorization mess and software + DRM makes it a hassle. I think for music subscription is still the way to go.

Wait... are you for music subscriptions or not? Seems like you don't like them but then it seems like you do.

Anyhow, I switched from Napster to Urge and I really enjoy it. I don't mind paying for a music subscription and the DRM issue hasn't really come up. At least I haven't had any problem and I use my subscription from several PC's. Don't need to burn on CD cause I put them on my Pocket PC Phone.

Subscriptions are fine, purchasing tracks is a waste IMHO.

Hi Omar,

Are you planning to switch to the Zune completely? Any plans to post a comparison to the iPod?

I really wonder about downloaded music sales--I will buy a track or two, off an album, only if that track's the only one I want. (Otherwise I buy the CD, if I'm interested enough.) I don't think this translates into much money for the seller or for the artist; I assume enough other people act differently for the download sites to be profitable.

Also, Amazon's free "super saver" shipping tends to get CDs to me within a week, which seems adequate as far as I'm concerned, and cheaper than "prime" if you don't buy that much.

I agree Omar. In total, I have only purchased 4 downloadable songs. The subscription plan has me very interested though. It seems like a great way to be able to sample damn near anything I want. If I really like an artist I'll buy the CD anyway.

I'm not sure if I will switch to the Zune completley. I'm interested in downloading TV shows so if they add that to the zune marketplace I'll probably consider it. But I have a lot of iPod accessories at this point so I may add a Zune to the mix but I doubht I'll ditch my iPod anytime soon.

Okay, I was just confused because you said you don't want to spend more than $20/year. Subscription services are roughly $10/mo.
